Assim, os jovens estão ali meio que no piloto automático, lutando pelas ordens que recebem, mas o filme nos faz questão de mostrar humanidade e o faz muito bem, sem excesso de melodramas.
Como Hannah Arendt muito bem captou, a burocracia nos cega, a banalidade do mal prevalece. Mostra-nos a estupidez da guerra e de seus líderes, quem está na trincheira e quem está confortavelmente no gabinete dando as canetadas (retratados com certo desleixo), porque o foco mesmo são as bombas, a angústia, a tensão. Não deixa de ser um filme sensorial, às vezes até meio sádico, ainda que muito bem feito.
